About Wausau Whitewater Park
In the 1970s whitewater paddling was just beginning
With few local paddlers and the popularity of whitewater paddling in the USA taking foothold predominantly in the Southeastern states, the Wausau Whitewater Park originally began as a way to attract national and international whitewater slalom competitions. A world-class park developed over time, and we have since hosted multiple National, North American and World Championship events.
As time progressed, events and programs expanded to introduce the local community to whitewater paddlesports and safety while also developing the park to stimulate the local economy through its attraction for both visitors and residents in downtown Wausau.
Today the 1/3 mile course, located in the heart of downtown Wausau, WI, has developed to offer more than twelve whitewater features for paddlers of all skill levels. The venue hosts public recreational releases, professional instruction and major competitive events. The park has attracted thousands of visitors annually and has generated millions of dollars in economic impact to the greater Wausau area since its inception and continues to play a vital role each year.
