Whitewater Kayak Lessons
Whether you are a total beginner, or have some experience, these lessons are for you! If you are new to whitewater, we’ll help you get the right start. If you have some experience & are an intermediate skilled paddler we’ll help you take steps toward becoming an expert!
During these 2-3 hour classes by Whitecap Kayak you’ll be provided a kayak, paddle, skirt, helmet & PFD.
Jackson Freestyle Clinic
Join us for 2 days on the river to advance your freestyle skills. Each day you will have 3 hours of on-river instruction. Whether you’re looking to learn to spin, cartwheel, loop, godzilla, or tickywoo, this clinic is for all freestyle levels. A free entry into the Midwest Freestyle Championships is included with your registration for you to test what you’ve learned. The beginner competition has dozens of participants surfing and spinning to challenge themselves and their skills, so don’t be shy, there’s a competition class for every level!
Swiftwater Rescue Clinic
This 2-day clinic teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress. Emphasis is placed both on personal safety and on simple, commonly used skills. Fundamental and more advanced techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments, and pins, also are practiced. Scenarios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context.
Team River Runner
Team River Runner’s mission is to provide all veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose, and new challenges through adventure and adaptive paddle sports!
We welcome Veterans and their families to join us for a day of learning to paddle at our Wausau Whitewater Park. Instructors and safety volunteers are here to help you learn and advance your skills. If this is your first time in a kayak we will teach you the basics, or if you have whitewater experience we will help you advance to paddle your first class 3 rapid.
Not a Veteran? That’s OK! We need plenty of volunteers to help with both on-water and off-water activities.
Development Weekend
This weekend is reserved for groups to develop their whitewater skills together. Boy Scouts, Green Bay Kids Kayaking, and other youth groups learning flatwater paddling, will advance their whitewater skills! If you have a group of students and instructors and would like to participate this weekend, contact us!
Open Canoe Clinic
During this Intermediate level canoe course, Andrew and Carole bring their unique teaching skills to help you understand how the canoe moves, and how best to use the force of the water to your advantage. They’ll teach you how to move your boat efficiently, make moves easily and go magically fast in current.
