Development Weekend & Swiftwater Rescue Clinic

  • Wausau Whitewater Park (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This weekend is reserved for groups to develop their whitewater skills together. Boy Scouts, Green Bay Kids Kayaking and other youth groups who have been learning flatwater paddling, will advance their skills to include whitewater! If you have a group of students and instructors and would like to participate in this weekend, contact us.

Wausau Whitewater will also host a Swiftwater Rescue Clinic at this time. This two day clinic teaches recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress. Fundamental and more advanced techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, rescue vest applications, entrapments, and pins also are practiced.

Practice water is available at Feature #4 for the National Freestyle competitors during this weekend.

Team River Runner Whitewater Paddling Weekend

Team River Runner’s mission is to provide al Veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose and new challenges through adventure and adaptive paddle sports. We work closely with several Team River Runner (TRR) chapters in the Midwest including TRR Green Bay, TRR Milwaukee and chapters in Minnesota to facilitate this great weekend on the water.

We welcome Veterans and their families to join us for a day of learning to paddle at our Wausau Whitewater Park. Instructors and safety volunteers are here to help you learn and advance your skills. If this is your first time in a kayak we will teach you the basics, or if you have whitewater experience we will help you advance to paddle your first Class III rapid.

Not a Veteran? That’s OK! We need plenty of volunteers during the TRR weekend to help with both on-water and off-water activities.
